{Parties} A Velveteen Rabbit Brunch

This Year for our Easter brunch...

we decided on the classic theme about the little rabbit who wanted to be real. "The Velveteen Rabbit". It is a favorite of mine. I watched it as a child every Easter. I wanted to introduce it to my children when they were old enough to understand and read the story themselves. This Easter was the perfect time. We wanted them both to own the classic copy of the story from 1922 by Margery Williams with illustrations by William Nicholson (as seen on the dessert table). It is such a lovely story...and it is so unique not to share. I find some of the classics get lost these days.

I took all of the inspiration from the book. I pulled the color scheme from the cover with it's turquoise, greens, browns and gold tones. I started by hand illustrating a large Velveteen rabbit to resemble the cover art of the book. Our desserts included two cakes. One pale turquoise rosette cake (chocolate fudge with classic buttercream frosting). The other a vanilla cake with different color layers (yellow and pale turquoise) with fondant. We did some dessert shots with custard, whipped cream and the colored cake topped with sugar chicks. We carried the chicks through with yellow peeps, and fondant chicks for the cupcakes. The cupcakes also had a yellow and pale turquoise marble inside. We added more pops of yellow with jelly belly, ribbons and on the bunny pops. Of course we had to add chocolate, after all is was Easter...it brought in the brown colors. I used antique crates for risers to give the table some height. Banners and printables as seen are all from our illustrated Velveteen rabbit paper collection.  Backdrop fabrics, napkins, plates + fuzzy bunnies (flower arrangement) from (Pier one), the plaid and linen tablecloths + vintage style green and yellow glassware (homsense/homegoods) fit perfectly with the classic theme and colors we were going for.

This is such a sweet theme. It can be used for A First birthday, Baby Shower, Sip and See or Gender reveal party. The paper collection you see featured is available in several color combinations. One of which is Lavender and Sage. Available in our etsy shop.

Starring: Bella Bunny. :) The inspiration behind one of our Childrens Illustration lines. Bella and Welly (Welly was camera shy). :)

  1. Everything in this Easter is just so amazing. I liked that cake a lot. At some domestic event venue New York I will also be hosting a grand party for my daughter’s 6th birthday celebration and this cake would be perfect for her floral themed party. If you have more inspirations, please share.
