{Parties} Suessical "Cat in the Hat" Soiree

Thrilled to have our Suessical "Cat in the Hat" Party Featured on Amy Atlas - Sweet Designs!

The Party as told by Amy:

This Dr. Seuss party was sent to us by Catherine from Serendipity Soiree. Her daughter’s 1st grade class studied Theodor Seuss Geisel for their author studies and honored what would have been his 108th birthday by filming a production of Cat in the Hat. Catherine created a Seussical soiree for the production. She brought the book to life with illustrated signage and illustrations for the backdrop. We love the illustrated cake and red velvet cookies. Other sweet treats on the dessert table included Thing 1 and Thing 2 cupcakes topped with cotton candy, as well as red and blue candy. Catherine dressed up strawberry water (pink ink drink) with fun stripy straws and drink flags.
Something extra sweet…The table was a surprise for her daughters teacher who is expecting any day. Catherine created a sweet sign that read: ”Somebody special is coming you see…Mrs. Wilson’s brand new baby…The cat in the hat will be…the very first book in his or her’s library…write your name on the front or back of it’s pages…it’s something he or she will treasure for ages! signed the cat” Fantastic! Scroll down for the vendor credits.

Cartoon Illustrated Cake inspired by the cake in the story "Cat in the Hat". We placed it on an illustrated platter also from the story. It did "sit sit sit sit" on a red chair also from the story. :)

Thing 1 and Thing 2 strung up poor fish while flying kites! ;) Inspired Illustrations from the book.

BUMP! Illustrated renditions of the fish in a bowl with Bump sign + Illustrated cartoon books..inspired by the "Cat in the Hat" book. Kids could guess how many blue fish. "One fish, Two fish How many Blue Fish?

Our Surprise To The Grade 1 Teacher!

We incorporated as many elements of the book as possible. This is an illustrated giant ball from the book. Plus simple table settings for the children to have their cake. :)

Photobooth fun!

Photobooth fun! These were the actual stars of the video production "my daughter (RIGHT was Thing 1) and classmate". The only thing missing was their belly badges in this image. :)

The invitation. We have a similar one available in our shop without the fish...geared towards Birthday parties and showers etc.

This year the academy where my daughter attends grade 1 decided they would celebrate and honor the would be 108th birthday of the genius Dr. Suess. They put off a filmed production of the Cat in the hat and the entire year did author studies and everything suess! So cute. I was so excited and offered to throw a suessical soiree for the production showing! I really wanted to do a different suess table :)

I wanted to bring the book to life and illustrated my own renditions of the the cat in the hat and incorporated them into the paperie used throughout the party and the fun invitation.

I brought into the dessert table as many elements of the book as possible. Inspiration came from the part of the book...all we could do was sit sit sit...so I illustrated a large window... I found a beautiful antique red chair like the book and used it as the cake stand to "sit" below the window. I created and sat a cartoon cake (vanilla and fondant)... (I knew I had to use the same cake from the book) on a cartoon version of the platter I illustrated.

Thing 1 and Thing 2 in the book fly kites in the house...so I created large kites and strung them across the chairs and the poor fish in a cup was tangled up in the strings...oh what fun! I created cartoon books to place the fish bowl on which included the fish and "bump" prop (one fish two fish how many blue fish labels...kids could guess how many).

We brought in strawberry water (pink ink drink) with fun stripy straws and drink flags I created. The kids LOVED the pink ink. Other treats included thing 1 and thing 2 cupcakes popping out of a large wood red "crate" I painted (cupcake wrappers I illustrated and cupcakes were topped with blue raspberry cotton candy), thing 1 and thing 2 red velvet cookies on top of a bed of red jelly belly. Candy jars were filled with cherry sours and salt water taffy in cat in the hat colors...even striped taffy like the cats hat. I kept the place settings simple in keeping with the colors and theme.

We surprised my daughters teacher Mrs. Wilson...she is expecting any day...so I created a sweet sign that read:

"Somebody special is coming you see...Mrs. Wilson's brand new baby...The cat in the hat will be...the very first book in his or her library...write your name on the front or back of it's pages...it's something he or she will treasure for ages! signed the cat"

Everyone from the grade 1 class signed the book for Baby Wilson. She was so surprised. Just priceless. :) It just so happened her nursery colors are red and aqua/turquoise! She even kept the framed sign. ;)

Everyone had a ball with the photo booth as well (seen in the images)! My daughter and one of her best friends were the stars of the show Thing 1 and Thing 2 and her other bestie with I am Sam signs. :)

Hope you enjoyed our Suess inspired party!
